Fayetteville’s Month Long Salute To The Military To Include Three Memorial Day Celebrations Fourth annual 31 Day Salute continues with events planned in Fayetteville, Spring Lake and Hope Mills

Fayetteville, NC - May 22, 2012 - As America’s First Military Sanctuary, Fayetteville/Cumberland County believes its military heroes deserve more than just one day in May to be recognized for their service and has dedicated the entire month to doing so. As part of this year’s 31 Day Salute <http://31daysalute.com> , the community will be hosting three different Memorial Day celebrations, including one in Fayetteville, one in Spring Lake and one in Hope Mills.

Kicking-off this year’s Memorial Day festivities on May 26th at 10 A.M. is the annual Spring Lake Memorial Day Parade <http://www.visitfayettevillenc.com/calendar/calendar-of-events/2012/05/26/spring-lake-memorial-day-parade--ceremony/> & Ceremony. This event is a time-honored tradition that gives the community an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the current, past, and fallen service veterans from the area. The parade will begin at the corner of Buchanan and Exchange Streets and feature several units from Fort Bragg, including the 82nd Airborne Division Band, the 16th MP Brigade and the 08th Air Defense Artillery Brigade corps color guard, among others. Following the parade, a memorial tribute to all veterans will be held at the Spring Lake Township Cemetery.

At 11 A.M. on May 28th, Freedom Memorial Park in Fayetteville will host its Memorial Day Ceremony <http://www.visitfayettevillenc.com/calendar/calendar-of-events/2012/05/28/memorial-day-ceremony-/> , honoring those that have paid the supreme sacrifice and the families who lost loved ones.

Also on May 28th, the annual Hope Mills Memorial Day <http://www.visitfayettevillenc.com/calendar/calendar-of-events/2012/05/28/hope-mills-memorial-day-ceremony/> program will be taking place at 4 P.M. at the Armed Forces monument. The event is being hosted by the Hope Mills VFW. Light refreshments will also be served by Ladies Auxiliary in the recreation center following ceremony.

Other events taking place during 31 Day Salute include:

* Bugler Ceremony - An Army Ground Forces Band trumpet player, Army Sergeant Curran J. Schenck, will help kick off Fourth Friday <http://www.visitfayettevillenc.com/blog/liberty-point-blog/2010/09/01/fayettevilles-fourth-friday-/> with a bugle ceremony involving the playing of “Retreat” and “To the Colors.” The performance will take place at the flag staff in front of the Fayetteville Area Convention <http://www.visitfayettevillenc.com/> & Visitor’s Bureau (FACVB) on May 25 at 5:15 p.m., as a simultaneous show of solidarity with Fort Bragg.

* Tribute to Revolutionary War Fifers - Army Ground Forces band will perform a patriotic concert and tribute to Fayetteville’s Revolutionary War fifers, Isham Blake and Isaac Hammond. The event is co-sponsored by the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum and takes place on May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry Parade Grounds. Following the concert, docents will offer tours of Cool Spring Tavern and Cross Creek Cemetery.
