The 2012 Frances B. Reid Award was given to the Friends of Cumberland County Public Library by the Friends of North Carolina Public Libraries (FONCPL) for their outstanding effort to support and strengthen public library service as large Friends of the Library group.

Library Director Jody Risacher attended the award ceremony held at Central Library in Greensboro, N.C. on Oct. 27, along with Friends President Pam Wade and Treasurer Roberta Waddle.

FONCPL's mission is to promote and develop excellent library service throughout the state by encouraging and assisting the formation, growth, and development of Friends of the Library groups in North Carolina and by providing the means for Friends to exchange ideas, information and experiences.

Frances B. Reid was the guiding force in organizing and establishing the FONCPL organization in 1980.

The Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library sponsor author visits and other library programming such as the Summer Reading Club.

Friends President Pam Wade and Treasurer Roberta Waddle accepted the Frances B. Reid Award, which was given to the Friends of Cumberland County Public Library by the Friends of North Carolina Public Libraries.
