Second Harvest Food Bank raising awareness with local and national documentaries

FAYETTEVILLE—Despite alarming national statistics that 50 million people in the U.S. do not know where their next meal will come from, many still do not believe hunger is happening in their community. Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina (SHFB) serves 7 counties (Bladen, Cumberland, Dublin, Harnett, Hoke, Robeson and Sampson), and within those counties more than 200,000 individuals face food insecurity. Many of those are young children, disabled and elderly. To raise awareness and encourage the community to join us in the fight against hunger, SHFB will be hosting a screening of HUNGER CAN’T WAIT and A PLACE AT THE TABLE at the Cameo Art Theatre on Tuesday, September 24 starting at 6:00 pm. The 15 minute HUNGER CAN’T WAIT documentary focuses on community members in our service area who face economic hardships, what SHFB is doing on a daily basis to address hunger, and the vital role SHFB member agencies have in the fight to end hunger. “A PLACE AT THE TABLE shows us how hunger poses problems for our nation and that it could be solved once and for all by making healthy food available and affordable to us all,” says Ron Pringle, SHFB Acting Director Tickets can be purchased for $25 at hungercantwait.org and at the Cameo with cash and checks only. Tickets will be available at the Cameo the night of the showing. Free appetizers will be provided by Mellow Mushroom. All tickets sales will be donated to SHFB. “Our documentary is meant to raise awareness about hunger in our community and make individuals understand the severity of the issue,” adds Pringle. “We want people to watch this film, to be motivated for change, and to make a difference in someone else’s life by donating or volunteering.”
