The highlight of my afternoon, besides getting the winning bid for the Chocolate Lover's cake created by Mary Welch, was hearing from one of the FAHFH homeowners, Ms. Shella Genrette.
Shella is an employee at Cape Fear Valley Health and is the proud new homeowner, thanks to FAHFH and their dedication to our community and meeting housing needs. Shella shared her story about how she moved to Fayetteville from D.C. after losing her job in 2010. She previously had family here that she had visited years ago, and she thought it could bring job opportunities.
"I love Fayetteville and now I have my own home!", exclaimed Shella. "It's both a dream and a blessing that I thought would never happen."
The Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build families, communities and hope while putting God's love into action.
Executive Director of FAHFH, Tammy Laurence, was elated to see such support coming from the local business community as many organizations, churches and residents attended the luncheon - and took home beautifully decorated cakes.
Over 20 cakes were taste tested or auctioned off - again, another tough day on the job.
Congratulations to Ms. Genrette for your hard work in meeting the criteria and earning the keys to your new home, you are a shining example of what hard work, prayer and community support looks like.
