FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY OFFERS UNIQUE SUMMER PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFERENCES

Bronco STAR’s B.O.O.S.T. Summer Camp Kicks Off on June 12th

Middle and high school students spent two weeks on the campus of Fayetteville State University (FSU) for the B.O.O.S.T. (Bringing Out Our Students’ Talents) program.  Nearly 30 students actively engaged in workshops that increased their self-confidence and academic stamina.

B.O.O.S.T.  helps the students identify areas of strength in an effort to create a smooth transition into high school and college. The summer camp assisted younger students in learning academic success strategies which enabled them to envision the type of student and person they might be in the future. These and other activities helped students set attainable goals and stay motivated throughout the year.  B.O.O.S.T. was attended by students in grades 6-12.

In its second year, B.O.O.S.T. has been a great success for FSU and Bronco STAR.  The students who attended last summer’s camp showed improvements and many returned this summer to learn more useful learning strategies.  “It is so rewarding to be surrounded by students who want to be their best; they just need a little guidance.  B.O.O.S.T. offers them the tools to get them started on the path of success - both academically and socially,” says Andrea Neal, Executive Director of Special Programs.

B.O.O.S.T. is a signature program of Bronco STAR, which is dedicated to students with learning differences (LD). STAR strives to make its students proud of who they are despite the learning challenges they may experience.  The program offers various resources to help each student reach success and graduate from FSU.
