Mike Carter’s Southern Q Brew sauce is now available to the public
Fayetteville native Mike Carter, owner of Ole Mills Barbecue Company, has been selling his homemade Southern Q Brew barbecue sauce locally to friends and family for years. Carter decided not long ago to bottle his popular creation and start selling it to the public – and business has been booming. “Since last Wednesday, I’ve probably sold about 200 bottles” Carter said in a recent interview.
Although deciding to bottle the sauce and sell it to the public is a recent endeavor, the deliciousness of “Southern Q Brew” has not been kept a secret. Using the sauce, Carter has been entering and winning in barbecue competitions as early as 2014 at the N.C. State Barbecue Bowl. Since then, he has tweaked and perfected “Southern Q Brew” and has won other competitions such as the “When Pigs Fly – All American Barbecue Festival” Pit Masters Award in 2015 and the “When Pigs Fly – All American Barbecue Festival” Best All Around award in 2017.
“My sauce is just different,” Carter said, “It’s a mix of eastern and western, sweet and tangy, and you can use it on just about everything,” Carter said. “I even have friends who use it as a mixer.”
When Carter is not cooking or dominating his opponents at barbecue competitions, the chef works for UPS, as he has for 24 years. Carter said that he loves cooking because it is his “sanctuary” and that sometimes he has a tendency to get lost in it.
Mike’s sauce can be found on his website https://www.olemillsbbqco.com/ as well as at Village Style Shop which is located in Hope Mills.
