Friend’s Table celebrates opening

Portia Grady and Mahalia Robinson, co-owners of Friend’s Table Restaurant & Provision Co., held a tasting preview Nov. 16 ahead of their grand opening, which took place Saturday. Guests were treated to samples of their signature dishes, such as buttermilk fried chicken and cornbread waffles and shrimp and grits, as well as mimosas. The restaurant is located in a renovated space on the ground floor of the Systel Building, at 225 Green St. The idea and its name came from potluck gatherings that she and her friends enjoyed. She and Robinson started a catering business, Friends Upscale Comfort Food and have carried that menu over to the restaurant. For more information, go to friendstable.com.
