PWC equipment failure discharges thousands of gallons of sewage

The Fayetteville Public Works Commission’s sewage system on Friday night discharged raw sewage into a tributary of Rockfish Creek, the PWC said on Saturday.

The spill was on the 4400 block of Claude Lee Road, south of Fayetteville and east of Hope Mills, near Exit 44 on Interstate 95.

“The 30,000-gallon spill lasted approximately 3 hours and 5 minutes, ending at 1:50 am (5-24-25) and was caused by equipment failure,” a news release says.

“Approximately 22,500 gallons entered into an unnamed tributary to Rockfish Creek. The affected area was cleaned. The North Carolina Division of Water Resources was notified of the overflow,” the PWC said.
