Dyon Ricardo Thorne was born on July 14, 1968, in the Bronx, New York, to Tyrone Oswald Thorne
and the late Marquita deAlva Thorne. On September 4, 2025, he peacefully departed this life at
WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC, with his loving wife by his side.
Dyon accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at Christian Pentecostal Church of Christ in
Fayetteville, NC, under the leadership of Bishop Joanie T. Greene. A devoted believer, he cherished
his Bishop and church family, found joy in Bible study, and encouraged others to trust in God’s power to
heal.
He began his education in the Bronx public school system and graduated from Columbus High School
in 1985. Following in his love of working with his hands, he pursued carpentry and found fulfillment in
fixing and building things. His upbringing was marked by the influence of his mother, who served as a
dean in the public school system, and his father, who served in the United States Air Force before a
long career with the postal service.
Dyon was known as a gentle giant—quiet, kindhearted, and deeply loved by many. He had a gift for
making friends, offering help, and being a good listener when someone needed to talk. Family was at
the center of his life. He adored his wife, cherished his daughter, and embraced his stepchildren and
grandchildren with love and pride. He found joy in laughter, never complained, and carried himself with
grace even in the face of health challenges.
Dyon also had many passions. He loved sneakers, music, and always took pride in looking sharp. As
an avid football fan, he rarely missed a game, often calling his best friend—his dad—to talk through
every play and every player. When not at home, Dyon loved to get in the car and simply drive, finding
peace and adventure on the open road. Despite his health struggles, he never let them define him or
limit his spirit. He especially valued the care and friendships he found at Fresenius Kidney Care, where
the staff became like family.
Dyon was preceded in death by his mother, Marquita Thorne; his grandmother, Mary Evelyn Carter;
and his brother, Darryl Thorne. He leaves to celebrate his life and carry forward his memory: his
devoted wife, Daisie Thorne; his beloved daughter, Dalaijah Thorne; his stepchildren, David Velazquez
(Danielle), Ariel James (Brandy), Christopher James, Chanelle Phillips, Victor Phillips, and Tajai
Walker; his grandchildren, Milani Amor Henderson, Isabelle Matta, Stephen Spencer, Liam Velazquez,
Alliana James, and Alysha Moss; his aunts, Sonja Clarke, Jackie Figueroa, and Joanne Lawson; his
cherished sister-in-law, Gladys Javier; his special great-niece, Linah Robinson; along with a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Dyon will be remembered as a man of faith, love, and quiet strength—a true family man who left behind
a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion. His memory will forever live on in the hearts
of those who knew and loved him
