Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Gutierrez; his firstborn, Baby Gutierrez; his grandsons Dallas J Morrison and Sean Schutkowski; and his great-grandson, Cameron Lee. He also joins in rest his parents, Manuel B. Gutierrez and Apolinaria Gutierrez, as well as siblings Manuel R. Gutierrez, Apolinario Gutierrez, Emma Gutierrez, Mickalea Colunqa and Celerina C. Gomez.

He is survived by his nine children, Manuel Gutierrez, Marie Smith, Linda Gutierrez, Slyvia Worthington, Charlene Gutierrez, Jane Gutierrez Langston (William D Langston), Janet McConnehey (David), Samuel Gutierrez, and Tina Gutierrez; his sister, Sylvia Perez; his brother, Felix Cerda; all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and his many nephews and nieces.

Sam was born in Texas and lived there until joining the Army, in the 82nd Airborne. He proudly served for 20 years, including wartime service in Korea and Vietnam. When not out in the field, he worked as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement as an SFC. After a career of working with his hands, San was a very crafty handyman, who loved to work on auto mechanical projects. Even though most of his life was grease and gears, he had a soft spot for animals and enjoyed gardening. He was a very dedicated father and husband, who always put family first. San’s presence is one that will be greatly missed.

No services are planned at this time.
