Mary Claire Enghauser Kosterman, 98, died Monday, March 16, 2026.
She was born March 17, 1928, in St. Louis, MO., to the late Catherine and Walter Enghauser. Mary Claire attended Ursuline Academy and later received a scholarship to Webster College, an all-women’s Catholic school. She met Joe while he was attending Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis. They married in 1949 and made their home in Fayetteville, NC.
As the matriarch of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she was a model of steadfast faith, and dedicated her life to serving her family, church, and community. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality, the Altar Guild, the Chrismon Committee, and provided meals for the care Clinic volunteers.
She was a member of the Floral McDonald Garden Club, the Fayetteville Literary Guild, and a close-knit birthday group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Aloysius Kosterman, and two daughters, Janet and Claire Elizabeth; her sister, Helen; her brother, Jim; and two granddaughters, Charlotte Kosterman and Mary Catherine McGarrahan, and her niece, Alice.
She is survived by her six children: daughters, Cathy Howell and husband, David; Mary Hopkins and husband, Tiff; and Ann Lieberman and Husband, Nate, all of Fayetteville; Carol McGarrahan and husband, Jim, of Cary; and sons Jay Kosterman, (wife, Cathy, deceased), and Mike Kosterman and wife, Melanie, both of Morehead City.
She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor David Brockman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
Visitation will be held at the church at 10 a.m., prior to the Mass.
Services are entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
