Peggy Welch Mitchell (72) passed away on March 31, 2026.

Peggy was born on July 7, 1953 to Catherine Welch and James Walter Welch.

She had a special smile that was warm and kind, and she devoted her life to loving and caring for others. She often sacrificed to make sure her family and friends were well cared for. Her dedication to others was evident through her career as a counselor at Raintree Clinic and as a devoted caretaker. Through her counseling services, she changed many lives, and her impact reaches far beyond her workplace.

Peggy loved music, especially blue grass. Music notes and lyrics were the rhythm of her soul. Her love for music led her and Ronnie Todd to host a radio show for WFSS in the 2000s, visit Galax many times, and share her love of music with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Peggy was a hippie at heart and she always shared a message in peace.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her immense joy. She loved being a part of their lives.

Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Catherine Welch Simms; her father, James Welch; her husband, Ronnie Mitchell; and her life partner, Ronnie Todd.

She leaves behind her son, Ronnie Mitchell (Chaundra); her daughter, Tina Mitchell(Jessie); her brother James David Welch (Vicki) and niece Mara and her grandchildren, Dakoda Kellogg (Maddie), Ciera Dickerson, and Lukas Horton. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Johnny and Turner; her sister-in-law, Lorelei Schoenmaker (Tony); her brother-in-laws, Bill (Betty), Mark (Ashley); companion David and many friends, cousins, nieces, great-nieces, and nephews whom she loved.

A memorial service will be held on April 18, 2026  at 11:00 am at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home with Susie Reeder officiating.
