The North Carolina Department of Information Technology will bring its “Closing the Digital Divide Listening Tour to Fayetteville on Tuesday. The session is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Tony Rand Student Center at Fayetteville Technical Community College, according to a Cumberland County news release.

Cumberland County Schools will host a “kindergarten showcase” to introduce incoming kindergarten students and their families to the elementary school environment.

Artwork by students in kindergarten through 12th grade is featured in the annual Cross Creek Mall Student Art Show through May 1, according to a Cumberland County Schools news release.

A golf tournament will raise money to support a scholarship named in honor of a graduate and lifelong educator at Terry Sanford High School.

The third  annual Trojan Fit 5K Color Run/Walk is scheduled for April 22.

Eighth-grade STEM students at Seventy-First Classical Middle School launched rockets that they "made from scratch" on Wednesday afternoon in the back lawn of the main school building. The hands-on activity required the students to design and build their own rockets, according to a news release from Cumberland County Schools.

“It doesn’t matter how hard things get,” said Lucas Simmons, a sixth-grader at South View Middle School. “I’ve got to keep on going and not stop no matter how tough things are.” Lucas’ sentiment echoes that of hundreds of Cumberland County Schools students and parents who had the chance to hear former NFL player Keith Davis and former college football player Germard Reed during a two-day visit to local middle schools.

Samuel Aponte didn’t get the outcome he was hoping for last weekend when he competed in the National High School Coaches Association wrestling tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia. But he did come away with a pretty solid consolation prize, recognition as an All American wrestler.

Ty Stewart of Gray's Creek baseball and Vanni Intini or Fayetteville Academy lacrosse turned in standout performances this week.
