Methodist University earns Military Friendly gold ranking   Methodist University has earned a “gold-level” ranking while being designated a Military Friendly university for the 2022-23 school year, the university announced in a release earlier this month.

A first-grade teacher at E. Melvin Honeycutt Elementary School is one of two people facing trafficking and other drug charges, the Fayetteville Police Department said. Antonisha Chambers, 34, and Bradford Gordon, 29, both of the 2500 block of Cumberland Creek Drive, are accused of trafficking methamphetamine, the Police Department said in a release.

A former Cape Fear High School teacher was arrested Friday on more than 50 child sex crimes, including 26 involving a student, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said. William Landon Smith, 31, of Wade, was arrested on 29 warrants with a total of 56 charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Beginning July 1, four schools in the Cumberland County Schools district will have new principals, the school system announced. The Cumberland County Board of Education on Tuesday approved John “Royvell” Godbolt as the new principal of Terry Sanford High School. Godbolt previously served as the assistant principal and athletic director at Terry Sanford.

Parents of students normally assigned to T.C. Berrien and Lillian Black elementary schools now know where those children will go in the 2022-23 school year. On Tuesday night, the Cumberland County Board of Education made final decisions on student reassignment plans.

When it comes to college basketball in Cumberland County, this community has plenty to celebrate. Fayetteville State University fans are still basking in the Broncos’ 65-62 victory over Virginia Union on Feb. 26, when FSU men's basketball claimed its first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association title since 1973.
