A first-grade teacher at E. Melvin Honeycutt Elementary School is one of two people facing trafficking and other drug charges, the Fayetteville Police Department said. Antonisha Chambers, 34, and Bradford Gordon, 29, both of the 2500 block of Cumberland Creek Drive, are accused of trafficking methamphetamine, the Police Department said in a release.

A former Cape Fear High School teacher was arrested Friday on more than 50 child sex crimes, including 26 involving a student, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said. William Landon Smith, 31, of Wade, was arrested on 29 warrants with a total of 56 charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Beginning July 1, four schools in the Cumberland County Schools district will have new principals, the school system announced. The Cumberland County Board of Education on Tuesday approved John “Royvell” Godbolt as the new principal of Terry Sanford High School. Godbolt previously served as the assistant principal and athletic director at Terry Sanford.

Cumberland Community Foundation has announced more than $600,000 in academic scholarships for 21 high school seniors who were named Robert H. Short scholars. The last-dollar-in award provides up to $7,500 a year for up to four years for a total of $30,000 per student, the foundation said in a release.
