On November 22 Eastover-Central Elementary School held a music education assembly for 400 K-5 students where they were entertained by Number Drummers
Number Drummers, a for-profit organization created by Troy Kryzalka, integrates music and math during assemblies and workshops in area schools. Due to a childhood eye injury, Kryzalka taught himself music using mathematics. Using his method, he graduated with his education degree as a music specialist and has taught and performed using this approach across the nation for 15 years. In 2011, Kryzalka was recognized for his innovative teaching approach and awarded by Yale University for his outstanding accomplishments in music education. A sample of a Number Drummers performance can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtD4VFKyJvw
Schools can apply for grants through the Arts Council to bring Kryzalka and a multitude of other artists to their school.
