8 treated at scene after apartment fire displaces 12 people Sunday

At least eight people were treated at the scene of an apartment fire Sunday night, the Fayetteville Fire Department said in a news release.

The fire was reported at 6:44 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Homes apartments at 722 Blue St., the release said. The first unit on the scene reported fire coming from the second floor of a two-story apartment building.

Fayetteville 911 received a call from an occupant stating he could not get out of his apartment, the release said. That person and 11 others were removed from the building.

At least eight people were treated on the scene by Cape Fear Valley EMS and Fayetteville fire crews, the release said. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the 12 displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Damage was estimated at $25,000, the release said.
