If you love science and art, you don’t want to miss what Cumberland County Public Library has in store for the month of April.
Join us at your favorite library branch for the 13th annual North Carolina Science Festival. This monthlong, annual celebration of science across the state is produced by the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
The 2023 theme, “Full STEAM Ahead,” highlights the intersection of science and the arts. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
Throughout April, all eight library locations will hold STEAM programs for children and teens including:

In addition to STEAM activities during April, the library is one of 35 host sites for the NC Science Festival’s annual Star Party. The theme this year will be “Celebrating the Night Sky.”
The library will host a program at 4 p.m. April 21 at the Hope Mills Community Branch, 3411 Golfview Road. Bring the whole family to enjoy a star-filled story time, crafts, STEAM activities, a scavenger hunt and a photo booth. View the night sky with telescopes and learn about the constellations and the eight phases of the moon.
Joe Kabbes, a Fayetteville State University astronomy instructor and manager of the university’s planetarium and observatory, will volunteer his knowledge and equipment for the Star Party. He’s even bringing a solar telescope that will make it safe to view the largest star in our solar system — the sun.

Remember, the science fun doesn’t have to end when you leave one of our programs. Arrive at one of our programs early or stay after and check out a book from our collection about science experiments that you can perform at home.
