Anne M. Nimocks

December 9, 1934 ~ August 10, 2022

Anne McCabe Nimocks, 87, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, just days after a family gathering. Anne graduated high school from St. Mary’s in Raleigh, NC in 1952, attended the North Carolina College for Women (UNC-G) and graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1956. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

In her professional life, Anne was dedicated to serving the community, first as the director of the school volunteer program in the seventies, as a director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in the early eighties, and as Executive director of the United Way from 1984-2000. A natural born leader, organizer, motivator, and list maker, no one could run an annual United Way campaign, raise funds, and win press like Anne Nimocks all while raising two children. As a retiree, from 1992 to 2016, she administrated the Youth Growth Stock Trust (YGST) of Cumberland County that funds meaningful programs and resources for young people.

She also researched and started an investment club in Fayetteville in her 40s and played bridge with the same group of ladies for decades, which she attended the day before she died. Over the years this group of ladies was as much a support group as it was a social one.

If her husband Bobby was the eccentric character, she balanced out the family by being the “practical one.” She loved to travel, attend plays, read books, especially mysteries, and work beautiful puzzles. (Ugly puzzles were not worth the effort.)

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Eugene Nimocks, Jr. (Bobby) for whom she cared in his senior years; parents, Maude Moss McCabe and Aubrey Guerkin McCabe of Chesapeake, VA; her sister, Margaret Hearring; her sister, Lumaddy McCabe who died as a toddler prior to Anne’s birth; her grandson, Charles Aubrey Rogers; her nephew, Patrick Hearring.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Moss Nimocks Rogers and Randy Rogers of Richmond, VA; her son, Robert Eugene Nimocks III (Gene) of Fayetteville, NC; her grandchildren, Richard Lee Rogers and Aurora Anne Wulff and her niece, Lee Anne Hearring Russel, and nephew, Michael Hearring, as well as her four nephews on her husband’s side, Chip, Nimocks, Charles and Marsden Haigh.

A special thank you to those who cared for or made Anne beautiful in her senior years: her hair stylist, Jerry Anne, and caregivers, Ruby, Virginia, and most fondly, Tyler Foraker with whom she had a special bond.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022, at St. John’s Church at 11 AM with a gathering to follow at the Kyle House next door. Anne’s ashes will be laid to rest next to Bobby in Cross Creek Cemetery and there will be a tent with chairs.

Anne had a big part in raising the standards of the Fayetteville symphony so in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Fayetteville Symphony in her memory.
