
Anne Mitchell Sternlicht, 87, of Fayetteville, NC, died Friday, February 17, 2023.
Anne was born June 9, 1935, to the late J. L. and Dorothy Barnes of Rex, NC, and was an only child. After graduating from St. Pauls High School, Anne became a military wife for 22 years and lived in many places including Verona, Italy. After returning to Fayetteville in 1965, Anne opened Major Travel, which she owned for 35 years. She escorted many tours to Hawaii, the Holy Land, Europe, and Alaska.
In 1990, she married the love of her life, Marty Sternlicht.
Anne is survived by her husband, Martin “Marty” William Sternlicht of the home; daughter, Vicki Lynn Cole of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca; son, Max H. Mitchell Jr. and wife Kendra of Athens, AL; three stepsons, Mark Sternlicht and wife Robbie of Fayetteville; Robert Sternlicht and Tony Abrahano of Long Beach, CA; John Sternlicht and James Finley of Anacortes, WA; five grandchildren; Max Mitchell III and wife Shelly of Athens AL, Spencer Mitchell of Athens, AL, David Sternlicht and wife Naama of Oakland, CA, Jeremy Sternlicht of Bellingham, WA, and Matthew Sternlicht of Fayetteville, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Hugh Mitchell of Athens, AL, Kate Wilkinson of Athens, AL, and Mia Adele Sternlicht of Oakland, CA.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. A private burial will follow in the Rex Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1243 Rex Road, Rex, NC.
