Earl Vaughan Jr.'s Athletes of the Week:
Kailee Meredith, Cape Fear, softball: A senior shortstop, Meredith went 6-for-10 last week, leading Cape Fear to a pair of wins over Seventy-First and one over Purnell Swett. She had two doubles and a triple, drove in six runs and scored eight.
Jonathan Strickland, Pine Forest, baseball: A junior, Strickland was 3-for-4, scored three runs, had two doubles and drove in a run. He also pitched four and two-thirds innings and got the win in a five-inning 21-5 game at Triton.
