Mr. Benjamin Gray Young, AKA Buddy, 87, went to his forever home in Heaven on December 10, 2025. He transitioned peacefully into his Heavenly home with his loving wife, his family, his fur baby Lucy, and his niece Lisa by his side.
Buddy was born in Fayetteville NC to Daniel Thurman Young and Narcissus Young on September 1, 1938. He had three loving sisters, (Deloris, Bonnie, and Kathy) and two brothers, (Daniel and David). Buddy was preceded in death by his brother David, his father, Daniel Thurman Young and his mother, Narcissus Young, brother, Daniel young, daughter, Michelle Lynn Antoniades, son, Anthony Young and son, Benjamin Young Jr AKA Benny (Tiffany). Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Ruby Young, son Bradley Young, son Michael Young (Rachael), and daughter Margie Denise McMahon (Scott). Together he and Ruby had six children, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Buddy grew up in Fayetteville and remained there his whole life. After he finished school, he went to work with his dad at Machine and Welding Company downtown Fayetteville where he found a love for welding and machining. This love led him to leave Machine and Welding in 1961 and go right out in his back yard and open with his dad “Young’s Welding and Machine Shop”, in the small shop and built the existing building in 1963. He loved seeing his customers daily and telling them tall tales to entertain them. He retired in 2009 after a long successful business and sold it to his son Michael where he continued going to work daily to make sure, he had his eye on things. Other than work he enjoyed raising cattle on his farm in Tarheel, horses and goats, tending to his garden and NASCAR races on Sundays. Buddy loved for his family to gather at his house and always made sure everyone was taken care of and happy. His grandkids called him “Pepa,” and they could always con him into a fun ride on his tractor or to take a dip in the pool. Buddy was a member of Eureka Baptist Church since 1971 where he was a loyal servant to God finding joy in prayer and strength in the word. He was also a long-term member of the Knights of Pythias.
Buddy did not meet a stranger and was a stable member of the community always standing up for what he believed in. Though he is no longer with us, his life legacy of hard work, love, and kindness along with his sense of humor will remain in our hearts, minds and around each corner we turn, forever. We will never forget him and the example he left. As he would say, “Hey Bo, I will see you again in Heaven.” We love you, Buddy!
The family would like you to join them in a celebration of life at Eureka Baptist Church December 15, 2025, at 1:00PM and visitation at Rogers and Breece December 14, 2025, from 6:00-8:00PM.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Cape Fear Hospice for the remarkable team of care givers that supported Buddy and the family during this time and to all the friends and family that came by.
