February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the rich culture and history of the African American community. Fayetteville is marking the occasion with a variety of events that honor the legacy.

Here’s how the Fayetteville community is celebrating Black History Month all month long:

The Seed & The Sower : A Black History Month Exhibit

  • Time: Jan. 24 – Feb. 28
  • Location: Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County (301 Hay Street)
  • Description: Art exhibit about Black female familial relationships.

North Carolina AAHGS Black History Month Genealogy Conference

  • Time: 6 p.m. Jan. 31 – 4 p.m. Feb. 2
  • Location: Fayetteville State University (1200 Murchison Road)
  • Description: Conference featuring workshops, panel discussions, tours and more

7th Annual Lafayette Lecture: Why is this city called Fayetteville? 

  • Time: Feb. 10, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Location: Rudolph Jones Center at FSU
  • Description: Lecture by Dr. Lloyd Kramer, professor emeritus at UNC-Chapel Hill

Black History Month: Local Historical Figures

  • Time: Feb. 11, 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Location: West Regional Library (7469 Century Circle)
  • Description: Lecture by FTCC Professor Jessie Kiker and Hattie Presnell from the Fayetteville History Museum

“Do the Right Thing” film screening 

  • Time: Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. 
  • Location: Cameo Art House Theatre (225 Hay St.)
  • Description: Film screening 

“Wilmington on Fire” screening 

  • Time: Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. 
  • Location: Cameo Art House Theatre (225 Hay St.)
  • Description: Documentary screening 

2025: The State of Systemic Racism in Cumberland County 

  • Time: Feb. 22, 8:30 a.m.
  • Location: Crossroads Church of Fayetteville (306 McArthur Road)
