February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the rich culture and history of the African American community. Fayetteville is marking the occasion with a variety of events that honor the legacy.
Here’s how the Fayetteville community is celebrating Black History Month all month long:
The Seed & The Sower : A Black History Month Exhibit
- Time: Jan. 24 – Feb. 28
- Location: Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County (301 Hay Street)
- Description: Art exhibit about Black female familial relationships.
North Carolina AAHGS Black History Month Genealogy Conference
- Time: 6 p.m. Jan. 31 – 4 p.m. Feb. 2
- Location: Fayetteville State University (1200 Murchison Road)
- Description: Conference featuring workshops, panel discussions, tours and more
7th Annual Lafayette Lecture: Why is this city called Fayetteville?
- Time: Feb. 10, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Location: Rudolph Jones Center at FSU
- Description: Lecture by Dr. Lloyd Kramer, professor emeritus at UNC-Chapel Hill
Black History Month: Local Historical Figures
- Time: Feb. 11, 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Location: West Regional Library (7469 Century Circle)
- Description: Lecture by FTCC Professor Jessie Kiker and Hattie Presnell from the Fayetteville History Museum
