Fryer takes on role on national home builders council
Natalie Fryer, the executive officer for the Home Builders Association of Fayetteville, was sworn in Feb. 9 as secretary for the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders.
The swearing-in took place at the International Builders Show in Orlando.
The position is part of a three-year ladder in which she will later serve as vice president and then president of the national association’s Executive Officers Council.
“It is an honor to serve in this new role within the EOC,’’ Fryer said. “It is the EOC’s mission to further professional development, provide networking opportunities and be a resource for local associations.”
Fryer was elected to the position during the national association’s Executive Officers Council annual meeting in August. She will be the third executive officer from North Carolina to be elected to serve in this position.
“I am delighted that North Carolina is represented in such an important leadership role,” said Tim Minton, executive vice president of the N.C. Home Builders Association. “Natalie is well-prepared for the job having led the Fayetteville HBA as well as being a leader within NCHBA.”
FSU names new dean for Broadwell College of Business & Economics
Ulysses Taylor has been named dean of the Broadwell College of Business & Economics at Fayetteville State University.
He previously served as professor of accounting and chairman of accounting, finance, healthcare, and information systems at FSU, the university said.
Taylor will be responsible for all undergraduate and graduate business programs, which include approximately 1,750 students and 62 faculty and staff.
Taylor is a former board member of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber and the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Economic Development Corp. He currently serves as chairman of the Fayetteville State University Development Corp. and as board member and treasurer of The Capitol Encore Academy, the university said.
"Dean Taylor brings a unique combination of knowledge and practical experience to the deanship,’’ Monica Terrell Leach, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, said in a release. “He has proven to be strategic, entrepreneurial, and visionary. He is committed to the overall success of our students and is highly regarded in the field of business education."
Taylor has a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from FSU, a Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University and a law degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.
Cumberland County Schools receives communications honors
The North Carolina School Public Relations Association recently announced that the Cumberland County Schools’ Communications and Community Engagement team received 13 Blue Ribbon awards in the areas of marketing, special events, digital media, publications and writing.
The school system also earned top honors with a “Best of the Best” award in the special events category for its graduation campaign, the school system said in a release.
“Our district is a unique and diverse community of successful students, premier professionals and committed partners, and our team is honored to be the storytellers of this exceptional community,” Lindsay Whitley, the associate superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement, said in the release. “These awards represent just a fraction of the incredible work these storytellers do, and I am so proud of them.”
The school system received seven gold awards, four silver awards and two bronze awards.
A Blue Ribbon award recognizes excellence in school communications and public relations in eight categories: digital media engagement, electronic media, excellence in writing, image/graphic design, marketing, photography, publications (print and electronic), and special events and programs.
