Cumberland County holding career fair Thursday

Cumberland County government will host “Cumberland Careers,” a countywide career fair, on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center,1960 Coliseum Drive.

The career fair aims to connect job seekers with career opportunities in Cumberland County government, the county said in a release.

Each of the county’s more than two dozen departments will have a table at the career fair, where they will have information on available jobs and the public services they provide.

“We’re hosting this career fair to educate people about career opportunities with Cumberland County government – we have a wide variety of open positions with a range of experience requirements, including entry-level positions with very competitive benefits and employee-centered programs,” Assistant County Manager Brian Haney said in the release. Haney is also serving as the county’s interim Human Resources director. “Job seekers who come out will be able to learn about these positions directly from the departments they serve and will be able to apply for jobs on-site with assistance from county staff.”

Attendees also will learn about the county’s benefits, wellness programs, and an on-site primary care provider and pharmacy for employees and their covered family members.

The county is currently providing a retention incentive of $1,000 for employees who are hired from now through Nov. 1 and who stay through June 2023, the release said.

"Cumberland County government is working hard to attract and retain a capable and skilled workforce,” Haney said. “We want to make sure job seekers in Cumberland County and the surrounding area know we’re here and what options are available for them to enter into lifelong careers in public service. We also want to make sure Cumberland County’s workforce is reflective of the community we serve.”

“We are extremely proud of the exceptional programs, faculty and students in FSU’s Broadwell College of Business and Economics,” Monica T. More than 1,700 FSU students are enrolled in the Broadwell College, with business administration their top-ranked major, the university said.
