Fort Bragg job fair
RecruitMilitary is planning an in-person hiring event on June 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Iron Mike Conference Center on Fort Bragg.
Organizers expect nearly 70 employers to attend. They will be looking to hire veterans, military spouses, members of the National Guard and reservists.
RecruitMilitary said it had more than 480,000 jobs available on its job board as of Thursday, with more than 25,000 available in North Carolina.

Sandhills Electric Vehicle Advisory Club meeting
Electric vehicle owners, businesses and residents interested in learning about EVs are invited to attend the Sandhills Electric Vehicle Advisory Club meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting will be hosted by the Fayetteville Public Works Commission and Sustainable Sandhills. It will take place at the PWC administrative offices at 955 Old Wilmington Road.
Sustainable Sandhills and PWC formed the Sandhills advisory club in the fall of 2021 to serve as a resource for EV owners and prospective EV owners as well as area businesses.
There are approximately 4,000 registered EVs in Cumberland County, the PWC said in a release.
At Monday’s meeting, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and representatives from Advanced Energy will provide information on the state’s Volkswagen Settlement Grant, which makes grant funding available for EV charging infrastructure. The first phase of the settlement awarded $30 million in project funds across the state. The second phase is in progress to invest the remaining $67 million in Acro funds, much of it going to increase charging infrastructure, the release said.
PWC will present its recently announced EV Master Plan to prepare system infrastructure for the increase in EVs and EV charging equipment. The plan includes a proposed residential rate plan for EV charging that will be presented at the meeting, the release said.
The meeting is free and open to the public.

Cumberland educator named one of three Participate Learning Teachers of the Year
Anayansi Young, a fourth-grade Spanish Immersion teacher at W. H. Owen Elementary School, has been named one of three 2022 Participate Learning Teachers of the Year, the school system announced.
Participate Learning serves nearly 22,000 students, 1,000 visiting international teachers, and 3,000 local educators in more than 400 schools across the country.
School staff and representatives from Participate Learning shared the news during a surprise announcement on Thursday at Owen elementary. Young received a framed certificate, a laptop computer and a $1,000 check for personal use, the school system said.
"It's impossible for me to win this award without the entire W. H. Owen Elementary community, starting with the administrative team, my colleagues, and my grade level team,’’ Young said. “I am beyond grateful."
Young previously served as a Participate Learning Spanish Immersion teacher at W.H. Owen Elementary from 2013 to 2018. After concluding her first international tour, she returned to Owen elementary during the 2020-21 school year to begin a second international tour with the dual language program, the school system said.
"Mrs. Young truly embodies the essence of a premier professional at Owen Elementary,” said Latreicia Allen, principal of W.H. Owen Elementary School. “She demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that her scholars are successful while collaborating with her colleagues and the entire school community to fulfill the mission and vision of the school. She is a gem."
