Business Notebook: PWC, city offer networking on procurement

Fayetteville Public Works Commission and the city will host Industry Day Business Networking on Tuesday in an effort to reach out to local businesses about business opportunities.

The expo will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdsay at the PWC Operations Center, 955 Old Wilmington Road.

Industry Day will include the PWC and city procurement departments as well as representatives of departments that have significant procurement needs, according to a PWC news release. Local businesses can learn about ways to do business with PWC and the city and the types of goods and services that are needed, the release said.

Industry Day is free and open to suppliers, professional service providers, and prime and sub-contractors of all sizes.

All business representatives are welcome. Specific needs include electric and water system construction and repair; building construction and repair; and fleet vehicles.

The Small Business Technology Development Center is also a partner in Industry Day and will have information on support for suppliers with management counseling and educational services, the release said.

Chamber names new director of events

The Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce has named Harmony Granderson its new director of events.

In her community-oriented job, Harmony is charged with engaging with chamber members to coordinate networking and educational programs, according to a news release. She will secure caterers and event locations; book speakers; and spotlight businesses in promotions.

“We are excited to welcome Harmony to our team,” chamber CEO Nat Robertson said in the news release. “We’re ready for her to dig in and get going as our new events director.”

Harmony is a Fayetteville native who is passionate about entrepreneurship, community involvement, and the arts, the release said. She is a graduate of Jack Britt High School and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from North Carolina A&T State University.

She started a small business focused on promotion of small businesses, nonprofit groups, and minority-owned companies.

Tint World auto products and services opens 8th NC location

TintWorld Automotive Styling Centers, a window tinting and automotive accessory franchise, is opening a new location in Fayetteville.

Owned by Shawn McMaster, Jaysen McMaster Foreman, and Candi Krueger, the local franchise provides automotive aftermarket styling services for Fayetteville and Fort Liberty residents.

“The three of us share a passion for automobiles, and we all love North Carolina,” said McMaster in a news release.

Tint World sells and installs auto accessories, mobile electronics, audio video equipment, security systems, custom wheels and tire packages, window tinting, vehicle wraps, paint protection films, detailing services, nano ceramic coatings, maintenance, and repair services, among other accessories.

Tint World Fayetteville is the eighth location in North Carolina. A grand opening is scheduled in July.

The three franchisees also own and operate Tint World Greensboro and will soon open two additional locations, the release said.

Cape Fear Valley Health presents quarterly awards

Cape Fear Valley Health has recognized members of its medical staff with quarterly awards. The winners will be considered for annual awards that will be presented on Doctors Day.

For the first quarter of 2023, the winners are Physician of the Quarter David Allison; Resident of the Quarter Hilary Strong; and Advanced Practice Provider of the Quarter Casi Gilmer, according to a news release.

Allison is an interventional radiologist with Valley Radiology. He nomination cited his willingness to help the inpatient staff with difficult procedures and for the helpful way he shares knowledge.

Allison received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, where he also completed his residency. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology.

Strong is a second-year psychiatry resident. Her nomination cited her compassionate, professional and proactive advocacy to improve patient care, practices and resident wellness. She also has been involved in the community through health education presentations with the Better Health Foundation and a wellness program that is part of the psychiatry program at Fayetteville Academy, the release said. 

Strong received her medical degree from University College Dublin School of Medicine and Medical Science.

Nurse practitioner Casi Gilmer works at Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital in long-term acute care. Her nomination said she “exemplifies excellence with a patient-centered response that exudes concern for the whole person.” It describes her as open, honest, respectful and empowering, as well as someone nurses can turn to for help with both patient care and personal concerns, the release said.

Gilmer is a certified family nurse practitioner and wound care specialist. 

Uniform supplier U.S. Patriot team visits Fort Liberty, Yadkin Road store

U.S. Patriot, one of the largest suppliers of military uniforms, boots and gear, is visiting Fort Liberty as part of its 25-base U.S. Patriot Bravery Tour.

A team visited the base exchange on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, the team will be at the U.S. Patriot store on 6415 Yadkin Road.

Food, promotions, giveaways, and a chance to win a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4x4 are part of the tour stop, according to a news release. It will be open to all former and current military personnel and their families.

“The purpose of this tour is to meet our customers face-to-face, get to know our troops, and bring their voice directly into how we serve them better for their tactical gear needs,” CEO Mike Fadden said in the release.
