Christine Marguerite Knott (Herbertson), passed away on October 18, 2023.
Christine was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce MacLean Herbertson, Jr.; father, Bruce MacLean Herbertson, Sr.; and mother, Gertrude Irene Herbertson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Danny O. Knott of Fayetteville, NC; Son, Robert B. Weeks (Married to Tanya Durbin) of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Roy F. Wall, III. Of Florida; brother, William MacLean Herbertson, Jr. (Married to Kathryn Herbertson) of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Kevin Wayne Herbertson (Married to Susan Herbertson) of Jacksonville, FL; grandson, Tony James Durbin of Fort Wayne, IN; grandson, Chase Cameron Weeks of Fort Wayne, IN; and her 5 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Christine was always known to be an avid lover, fighter and defender of animals, no matter what kind or the circumstances.
Being an Army brat, Chris and her family lived in many places growing up, including Tripoli (Libya), Fort Gordon (Georgia), Yuma (Arizona), and Fort Lewis (Washington) – with Jacksonville, FL being the family base.
Following in those footsteps, Chris joined the Army at the age of 34, encouraged by her father. After Basic Training (South Carolina) and AIT (Arizona), she started training to be a linguist and interrogator at the Defense Language Institute in California.
Her first language upon graduation at DLI was Spanish, which landed her at Fort Bragg, where she did a stint in Panama as a document translator (pre-conflict). After attending Warrant Officer School, Russian was added to her list of skills, with other languages to follow. She was instrumental in setting up and training for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) Command Language Program.
Her career took her all over the world, in many situations – precarious or not, such as Libya, Panama, Haiti (Operation Uphold Freedom), Frankfurt (Human Intelligence), Hungary, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and England (Chicksands) – to name a few, as well as enabled her to train in many interesting programs, such as SERE (Survival, Escape, Resistance and Evasion). She was in one of these training session on 9/11 in Washington, where she would witness the fire and damage caused by the attack.
In 2010, she was interviewed for Betty H. Carter Women Veterans Historical Project, which documents the contributions of women in the military and related service organizations since World War I.
She retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) in 2004, continuing in her job as a civilian as the FORSCOM Language Manager until officially retiring from service in 2014.
Christine (Chief) Knott leaves behind a legacy of family and military commitment that will be greatly missed by many.
