The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to hear an update about the county’s employee child care center, review emergency operations plans and appoint members of two boards.
Because Cumberland County offices are closed Monday in observance of Labor Day, the commissioners’ biweekly meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday instead of the usual Monday meeting day.
Employee child care center
Plans to create an employee child care center were announced in May after adequate access to child care was identified as a barrier to employee recruitment and retention in county government. The facility will be located at the Dorothy Spainhour Child Development Center, 223 Hull Road. An opening date has not been announced, but an update about the program will be presented to commissioners on Tuesday.
Also on the agenda
Commissioners are set to approve the designation of Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in Cumberland County, as well as proclaiming September as Preparedness Month, a month dedicated to preparing for disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and fires.
There will also be a presentation and review of Cumberland County’s emergency operations plan, which is used by county officials to guide response in times of disaster.
Commissioners may also waive an existing flu vaccine administration fee, making flu vaccines available at no cost this fall to those who qualify.
The board will also consider nominations and appointments to two boards — the Fayetteville Technical Community College board of trustees and the Cumberland County Board of Health.
The meeting will end with a closed session to discuss property acquisition.
