Cumberland County bridge work will require I-295 South detour

Posted

A section of Interstate 295 South will be closed this weekend for bridge maintenance, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The bridge over Carvers Creek, which is near the Cape Fear River, will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

The project will be rescheduled if it rains Saturday, the release said.

Southbound drivers will be detoured to take the River Road exit. To continue on I-295 South, they will travel south on River Road to Middle Road, then onto U.S. 301/I-95 Business to Grove Street, then north on Ramsey Street (U.S. 401).

DOT will do a combination of repairs and replacements of expansion joints, which help provide a smoother ride and protect the girders supporting the driving deck, the release said.
