Cumberland County to participate in annual homeless count Thursday and Friday

Posted

Cumberland County will take part in the nationwide “point in time” count of the homeless on Thursday and Friday, according to a county news release.

The Community Development Department, which oversees programs designed to promote affordable housing, will conduct the annual count in coordination with partner agencies and volunteers.

The count is conducted over a 24-hour period to provide a snapshot of the number of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people on a single night each year. The information will be reported to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the release said.

Teams of volunteers will be dispatched to areas where homeless people congregate as well as to charities and churches that offer services for the homeless.

The Community Development office is at 707 Executive Place. For more information, go to the Community Development website or call 910-323-6112.
