Deborah was born on December 17, 1954, in Sampson County to the late Ferman Hairr and Clister Taylor Hairr. She was a faithful member of Praise Fellowship Church of God, where she sang joyfully in the choir. Deborah had a deep love for her family, especially her mama and daddy, whom she cherished so dearly that she chose to marry later in life because she did not want to leave home.
She was well known for spoiling her nieces and nephews and found great joy in being with her family. Christmas was her favorite time of year, a season she celebrated with enthusiasm and love. Deborah was the owner and operator of Debbie’s Insurance and also shared her passion for health and fitness by teaching aerobics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wellons; her brother, Eddie Hairr; her sisters, Kay Maxwell, brother-in-law, Doug Maxwell, Phyllis Hyatt and brother-in-law, Bud Hyatt.
She is survived by her brothers, Ferman Hairr, Jr. and wife Ada, and Bobby Hairr and wife Charlotte; and her sister-in-law, Iris Hairr; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Praise Fellowship Church of God, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
