Disturbance between 2 women leads to shooting, Fayetteville police say


A Raeford woman is charged with shooting another woman after a disturbance between them was reported in Fayetteville, according to police.

Ashley Marika King, 21, of the 100 block of Heartwood Drive in Raeford, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department.

The disturbance was reported about 5:45 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Bugle Call and Deertrot drives, off Rim Road, the release said.

A woman had been shot in the hip area, the release said. She was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition.

Investigators said two women driving separate vehicles arrived at the location, got out of their vehicles and continued an argument. The cause of the disturbance was not reported by police.

King was armed with a handgun and shot the other woman, the news release said. She was arrested at the scene.

Investigators said King and the other woman knew each other before the shooting.
