Mrs. Doris A. Briones, 84, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Doris was born in Fayetteville, NC on June 5, 1938, daughter to the late Charlie F. and Ethel Lee Groves. Doris married the late Sgt. 1st Class Jorge A. Briones, who was on active duty in the U.S. Army, and they made their home in California. After living a full and successful life in California, they moved back to Fayetteville and loved traveling together, which include taking a cruise through the Panama Canal, visiting Hawaii and multiple road trips. Her greatest achievements were her husband, raising a family, traveling and the Red Hat ‟Angels” for which she presided as Queen Mum for 17 years. Doris' greatest inspirations were her husband, son, and daughter-in-law, and she greatly loved her family. Doris would like to be remembered as a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We love you, Mom!

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jorge A, Briones; and siblings, Franklin Groves, Taft Groves and Richard Groves.

She is survived by her son, Jorge A. Briones II, and his wife ,Joyce of Morgan Hill, CA; siblings, Ruth Shorter, Jerry Groves, Viola Locklear, Ann Thompson, and Evelyn Kamaka; and many extended family members.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Galilee Freewill Holiness Church, 3525 Sunnyside School Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 2505 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304 with Pastors Matthew Copple and Rick McDuffie officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Cape Fear Baptist Church Cemetery.

After the service at the cemetery, a reception will be held at Westminister Presbyterian Church.
