Dorothy “Kitty” Hammonds, 82, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Kitty was born and raised in Newark, NJ as an only child; On February 16, 1941, to the late Matt and Dorothy (Hill) Flynn.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Jean, and son Jimmy Boy.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Hubert “Kit” Hammonds Sr.; her four children, Carson, Tracey, Kerry, and Terry; seven grandchildren, Tashina, Destiny, Lee, Darin, Camore, Daniel, Noah; five greatgrandchildren, Triston, Brokly, Airee, Trey, and Noah Jr.; aunt and uncle, George and Myrtle.
She worked at Beth Israel Hospital and continued working at Cape Fear as an administrated assistant, she met the love of her life at Griggs Ford in Newark NJ. Where they became the best of friends for the next fifty-nine years. Kitty accepted Christ at a young age as a catholic but became a Baptist later. She was a spicy lady with a great Irish sense of humor. Dorothy later moved to NC with Kit and that’s where she took her last breath to be with the Lord. Kitty will be missed so much by her family and her husband Kit.
The Hammonds family would like to thank the hospital and all that were here to help her through this process. We also want to thank Earline, Tammy, and her granddaughter Destiny for being here for her when we couldn’t. We will always be grateful to everyone during this time of her illness.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, from 11-1pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Hammonds and Locklear Cemetery in Chadburn, NC at 3pm.
