A Cumberland County elementary school student was placed on the wrong bus on Monday, the first day of class for schools on a traditional calendar.
A spokesman for the school system said Tuesday he did not have details about the incident, including the child's' age and gender.
Without the student’s name, spokesman Lindsay Whitley said, privacy laws prevent releasing information.
“Thankfully, the student was safe, and that’s our priority,” Whitley said. “We’re grateful that the student is safe.”
A statement from Cumberland County Schools reiterated that its top priority is the safety of students.
“While we regret this situation happened, we are grateful that the student is safe,” the news release said. “District and school officials are looking into this situation to determine exactly what happened and how we can prevent it from happening in the future.”
Whitley said the first day of the new school year otherwise proved to be “a great day, a great first day.”
“I think we were very pleased with the smooth operations at our schools,” he said.
