Elizabeth Jackson, “Liz” Edwards, 84, of Hope Mills, NC, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Liz was born in Robeson County on August 22, 1940, to Hubert “Buck” Jackson and Zelma Elizabeth Newell Jackson. She was a Home Economics teacher for Cumberland County Schools and spent 44 years at Douglas Byrd High School teaching and as a Career Development Coordinator for Career and Technical Education. Her children shared this quote,” We just can’t express enough gratitude to her for all she did for us and our family – she worked a full time job as a public school teacher for decades, and at home she was always like a rock, always there, always showing up, making sure every need and detail of the home was met and taken care of. She made sure we were always where we needed to be and with the right equipment. She made sure we had food on the table and clean clothes on our backs. She even tracked us down physically, pulling us out of places we shouldn’t have been as teenagers. Everything it takes – all the hidden and unhidden work needed – to take care of a family, she did, and thanklessly most of the time. Every ounce of discipline we ever had we owe to her for her amazing consistency and so much more…”
After retirement, she enjoyed working with estate sales, spending time with her sisters, spending summers at Holden Beach, and being involved in church. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed sewing, collecting antiques, and was an avid reader. On her birthday in 2015, her daughter, Missy, had a brain aneurysm and Liz spent the rest of her life assisting with Missy’s every need. She also enjoyed following her grandchildren around and going to their ball games and soccer matches as their cheerleader!
Liz is predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Wayne Edwards, her parents, and siblings, Edward Jackson and Linda McGougan.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Edwards and Brad Edwards (Marlana); daughter, Melissa Zeisman (Louis); sister, Carolyn McDonald; 5 grandchildren, Jackson Edwards (Lauren); , Thomas Edwards, Hunter Zeisman (Megan), Hudson Zeisman, Victoria Edwards (Tyrea), Colton Edwards, and Hastings Edwards; and 6 great grandchildren, Jackson Edwards, Jr, Lilly Edwards, Annabelle Edwards, Evangeline Edwards, Myles Ruth, and Violet Zeisman.
Liz was laid to rest in a private family service at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery beside her beloved husband. A Celebration of Life service for friends and family will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11 am at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3350 Butler Nursery Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28306
