Emma's Doubles for Diabetes

The third annual Emma’s Doubles for Diabetes fundraiser took place Saturday and Sunday at Highland Country Club, featuring a World Team Tennis competition, a friendly tennis social for all ages, a pro exhibition and a golf tournament. It was all in the name of raising money for juvenile diabetes research in memory of a kind and caring 12-year-old, Emma Dixon, who died from the effects of diabetes in 2018.

Many of the weekend’s participants were friends and family members of Emma and her parents, Dawn and Chris Dixon.

“The main goal is to raise money for juvenile diabetes research,” said Dawn Dixon, a beloved second-grade teacher at Vanstory Hills Elementary School. “But we can’t think of a better way to celebrate Emma’s life than to see families having fun together.”

In its three years, the event has raised $90,000 through sponsorships, entry fees, a silent auction and raffles. Event committee members Candee Bryan, Carlye Pleasant, Mary Flagg Haugh, Jen Crumpler, Lindsay Howard, Caroline Parks, Jen Fincher, Serriah Ciccone, Jeff Ryman and Catherine McBrayer will tell you their efforts have been well worth it.

“Year after year, we are overwhelmed by the love and kindness of our friends and community,” Dixon said. “It was absolutely amazing.”
