Classes began Monday for about 2,000 students as Methodist University opened the 2022-23 academic year.
The students are from across the U.S. and more than 40 countries, according to a news release from the university.
“As a senior, I’m really looking forward to enjoying my last year at Methodist University,” said Sydney Bird, a forensic science and criminal justice major. “It’s truly an exciting time, but it also feels a little strange because it hasn’t quite sunk in yet that my undergraduate career is coming to a close next semester.”
Incoming students, including freshmen and transfer students, moved into their residence halls and attended orientation over the weekend, the release said.
Freshman Weston Black said he could hardly wait for his first day of college.
“I’m excited to start my life out and get my classes going. Everyone at Methodist University has been extremely welcoming so far, and the staff is awesome,” said Black, who plans to major in computer information technology. “I can’t wait to join a club, get to know people, and make straight As.”
The new year also provides a fresh start for many returning students.
“This year, my goal is to have a more structured lifestyle,” said Kether Fouana-Seth, a junior majoring in business administration. “I want to be sure to plan everything out moving forward. I want to be able to know when I need to study and when I can relax so I can be a more successful student.”
Methodist University has a 12-1 student-faculty ratio and offers more than 80 undergraduate, graduate, on-campus, and online programs, according to the release. It also has more than 150 student organizations and teams in 20 intercollegiate sports.
The university has scheduled a series of activities this week to welcome students back, including a music trivia game, “headphone disco,” a student employment fair, and Green & Gold Friday, the release said.
