Fayetteville firefighters to host Women in Fire Service Day on Oct. 7

Posted

The Fayetteville Fire Department is encouraging those interested in joining or learning more about being a firefighter to visit the third annual Women in Fire Service Day  on from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7, according to a news release. The event will be at the Fayetteville Fire Training Facility at 3065 Radar Road.

Women in Fire Service Day provides an opportunity to experience  required physical ability drills and a chance to hone interview skills and speak with women firefighters about their experience with the Fayetteville Fire Department, the release said. Lunch will be provided for all participants.

“Many women don’t think of the fire service as a career opportunity,” said recruitment Capt. Stephen Shakeshaft. “We invite them to learn, ask questions and hear about the unique rewards of the career from other women currently serving as firefighters.”

The event will focus on encouraging more women to apply for firefighter jobs  in line with the city's values of diversity and inclusion, the release said.

To register for Women in Fire Service Day, contact Capt. Shakeshaft at 910-676-1716 or StephenShakeshaft@FayettevilleNC.gov. Registration is open until all spots are filled, as space is limited, the release said.
