A Fayetteville man has been charged with attempted murder and assault after a woman was shot in a domestic dispute, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Anthony Lamont McDaniel, 41, was arrested Thursday night by detectives with the Major Crimes Unit. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, the Sheriff’s Office said.

McDaniel is in the Cumberland County Detention Center with no bond.

Shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on the 3200 block of Chippenham Street in Eastover where they found Juanda Carter with a gunshot wound to the head, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was taken to the hospital, treated for life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The investigation showed that Carter and McDaniel were involved in a domestic dispute, the Sheriff’s Office said.

McDaniel left before deputies arrived.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact detective Sgt. A. Mundy at 910-677-5513 or 910-323-1500, call Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
