A “No Kings” protest against President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies, especially in conducting ICE raids, is set to take place in Fayetteville this Saturday. The protest will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It will begin with a 15-minute march through from the Cumberland County Courthouse to Cross Creek Linear Park, where a rally will be held.
The “No Kings” rallies are scheduled in cities across the country this Saturday. The protests are intentionally set to take place at the same time as the military parade in Washington to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary, which coincides with Trump’s birthday. The parade will cost approximately $45 million. Organizers of the “No Kings” protests say the parade is a vanity display for Trump and consistent with ostentatious displays of military might often seen in fascist countries.
“NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies,” the event posting states. “We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.”
The nationwide rallies follow a slew of protests across the country against federal immigration raids, including in Los Angeles, where Trump deployed the National Guard at the objection of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
