Residents can ask questions about the City of Fayetteville’s construction, stormwater and parks and recreation projects at the “Fayetteville Outfront” community information session on Wednesday.
Fayetteville Outfront is a series of events where the public can interact with city staff to learn about initiatives. After a pause during the pandemic, the city restarted the series on April 29 with a session on how to do business with the city.
The Wednesday session will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorothy D. Gilmore Adaptive Recreation Center at 1600 Purdue Drive in Fayetteville. Residents will have a chance to ask about the 2016 parks and recreation bond projects, the 2022 Fayetteville general obligation bond projects and the city’s stormwater improvement projects.
Fayetteville voters approved a $35 million bond package in 2016. Most of the projects have been completed, but a few are still in progress, including the Mazarick Park Tennis Center, Mable C. Smith Park, Cape Fear River Park, McArthur Road Sports Complex and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Notably, work on the Mable Smith Park and Tennis Center was delayed when the contractor walked away from the projects. City officials have said both are on track for completion this year.
Voters also approved a $97 million bond package in 2022, including $60 million for public safety, $25 million for public infrastructure and $12 million for housing. The new 911 call center, which is in the planning stage, is part of this bond package. The package also includes the Rosehill Road Sidewalk project, which has been completed after being delayed when a contractor abandoned work on it, according to the city.
The city currently has $500 million in planned stormwater projects. Projects worth $72 million are currently in the design phase. These projects aim to improve stormwater infrastructure, mitigate the impacts of flooding and provide drainage improvements.
A dashboard showing the status of capital projects can be viewed on the city’s website.
The third and final “Fayetteville Outfront” session will be held on June 11. The location and topics will be announced before the session.
