The Fayetteville Police Department collected 340 firearms during a gun buyback event Saturday.

The event “surpassed our goal,’’ the Police Department said in a release.

It said 174 vehicles came through the event at Kingdom Impact Global Ministries on Murchison Road.

The program allowed firearms to be surrendered anonymously with “no questions asked.’’

People who turned in handguns received $100; those who turned in rifles or shotguns received $150; and those who turned in assault weapons received $200, the release said.
