Fayetteville Technical Community College received a threat through social media and email and is taking the situation seriously, according to a news release from the college Sunday.

College officials reached out to students, faculty and staff and is working to address the threat in conjunction with the Fayetteville Police Department, Spring Lake Police Department and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, according to a statement released by Catherine Pritchard, executive director of public relations and marketing.

FTCC will continue normal operations on Monday but with heightened security measures. Classes will operate at their normal times and locations, the statement said.

Increased security measures will include:

  • Limited access to college buildings. The main doors will be the only public points of entry, as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Increased presence on FTCC property by campus security and local police.
  • Required and visible display of college ID badges at all times by FTCC faculty and staff members.

The college is urging students, faculty, staff and visitors to be security-conscious at all times:

  • Be aware of your surroundings, walk with friends or co-workers when possible, and trust your intuition. If a situation makes you feel uncomfortable, notify FTCC Public Safety & Security at 910-678-8433.
  • In an emergency, call 911.
  • Add the FTCC security office’s number to your cellphone contacts and opt in for faytext alerts at this link.

Anyone with information that may help the investigation should contact FTCC’s Public Safety & Security office at 910-678-8433 and the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1529 (non-emergency) or 911 (emergency). Information may be provided anonymously.

The college will provide updates when available, according to Pritchard’s statement.
