Fayetteville Tech to dedicate new field for women’s softball team

Posted

Fayetteville Technical Community College will dedicate its new softball field and fieldhouse with a ceremonial first pitch on Saturday, according to a news release from the college.

The celebration will be followed by a doubleheader in which the FTCC Trojan women will face Cleveland Community College.

The dedication is free and open to the public. A ribbon-cutting is set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and the first game will begin at 1 p.m., the release said.

The Trojan field is at J.P. Riddle Stadium, 2823 Legion Road.

The new softball field is next to the baseball stadium that was given to FTCC by Cumberland County in 2019, the release said. Built to NCAA standards, the softball field will provide a permanent home for the FTCC softball team and represents a commitment by the school to providing equitable facilities for women athletes, the release said.

Before this season, the team used at Honeycutt Park at Kiwanis Recreation Center as its home field. The new field includes seating and a fieldhouse.

The FTCC women are currently 4-2.
