Former City Council member Chris Davis named to N.C. science, technology board

Posted

Gov. Roy Cooper recently appointed Fayetteville resident Chris Davis as an at-large member of the North Carolina Board of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

The state advisory board operates under the auspices of the N.C. Department of Commerce and is tasked with promoting scientific, engineering, and industrial research in support of the state’s economy.

Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Toni Stewart is scheduled to administer the oath of office to Davis at Monday’s board meeting. The meeting is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in Room 118 on the first floor of the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Davis is a former Fayetteville city councilman and previously chaired the city’s planning board. The City Council earlier this week appointed him to the Fayetteville Public Works Commission. He replaces current PWC Commissioner Wade Fowler, whose term expired in September.

Among the programs initiated by the Board of Science, Technology, and Innovation is developing ways of increasing U.S. Department of Defense funding technology development and commercialization for small North Carolina businesses.

Davis is a 25-year military veteran.
