Fort Bragg library celebrates Pi Day with dog cuddles, stories for children

Posted

Fort Bragg’s Throckmorton Library went to the dogs Tuesday — but in a good way.

Children and their parents celebrated National Pi Day with dog cuddles, dog-themed stories and songs, a demonstration by a military working dog, and, of course, pie during the Puppies & Pi(e) story time.

The library also collected pet toys, food and supplies to be distributed to animal shelters throughout the community, according to a news release from the Fort Bragg Public Affairs Office.

The pie was provided by the Fort Bragg Commissary.

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 — 3/14 — around the world. Pi, the Greek letter “π,” is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159, according to piday.org.

Math enthusiasts celebrate by reciting the infinite digits of pi, talking to their friends about math — and eating pie.
