It was a big day at Fayetteville State University's 150th Founders Day Convocation!!
Renowned historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. gave the keynote speech; Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina announced a $1 million gift to FSU's School of Nursing; and the FSU announced a $500,000 gift to the School of Business and Economics by brothers Dohn Jr., Charles and Richard Broadwell in memory of their parents, Dohn B. Broadwell Sr. and Charlotte L. Broadwell.
The business school will now be known as the Broadwell School of Business and Economics. The convocation saluted the seven black men from Fayetteville who in 1867 pooled funds to come up with $136 to buy land to establish a school for black children. Over the years, that school grew into Fayetteville State University. "We're the contemporary links in a chain that they began," said Chancellor James Anderson. #cityviewnc
