Gene Austin Knowles, 82 of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Moore Regional Medical Center.

Gene was born on September 1, 1940, in Sampson County to the late James Weaver Knowles and Ada Horne Knowles.

He retired as Asphalt Plant Manager from Crowell Construction. He was a member of Massey Hill Lions Club and Stoney Point Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating in the Men’s Workday and could outwork any of the younger group.

Gene had a love for God, family, and church. He was a hardworking man, and you could find him on most Fridays in the church cemetery keeping up the grounds.  He had a love for horses and enjoyed loving on all the little babies.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday September 9, 2022, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Stoney Point Baptist Church, with Pastor Duncan Edge officiating. Burial will take place following the service in the church cemetery.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Williams Knowles, and his brother Johnny Knowles.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jackson Knowles; daughters, Debra M. Robinson (Dennis), Mary Brown (Heath) Chrissy Faircloth (Lacey); sons, Sid Knowles (Lisa), Jackie Matthews, Tony Jackson, Phillip Lee (Brandy) and Jason Lee; brothers, Earl, Jimmy, and Jackie Knowles; sister, Mary Alice McLeod; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
